Fun Folds Class - Side Stair

an unusually simple card in the way of tools for me ... not a single accessory! It's back to basics, eh? It's called SIP --> Stamps, Ink, Paper - one of the first things I learned when I began stamping! BUT, the fun in this card is all about the fold. It's called a "Side-Stair" fold.

I held a class on Fun Folds the other day and this is another one of the folds I'd featured along with 3 other fun folds! I modified measurements I'd found somewhere online (sorry, I can't remember where ...). I'd share them if it wasn't a class card ... those are kept special :) However, if you would like them, you can always purchase a "class in the mail" -- details can be found on my new class kit blog!

Thanks for visiting! I hope you like the card :) Have a great day!

oh, and Susan had asked me a question regarding the bow on THIS card? I didn't get your email address with your comment so I'm replying here! Yes, there is a tutorial for the bow on that card and you can find it right HERE. Hope that helps :)

Scrappy Sunday!

Welcome back to another installment of Scrappy Sunday!

I'm still working on 2008 and I'm almost done ... whoo hoo! To think I've gotten almost two years of scrapping done in a few short weeks ... awesome (or at least I think so!).

This is an pic of all 5 kiddoes. They're actually all sitting at one time and pretty much all happy! It's rare to be able to capture this all at once so I try to do it as often as I can :)

I used a non-SU digi thing on this page -- the photo frame. I can't remember where I found it ... it was free anyway.

Anywho, hope you like the page :) Thanks for stopping by my blog, have a great day!

from the heart

Stamps: Watercolour Trio
Paper: Kraft, Taken with Teal, Elegant Eggplant, Whisper White
Ink: Taken with Teal, Elegant Eggplant, Melon Mambo, Stazon™
Accessories: Dimensionals®, Melon Mambo Dotted Grosgrain

I combined two challenges for this card: Kazan's sketch and Just Add Ink's colour challenge. The colours were a bit of a doozy for me ... I sat on it for a couple days! Anyways, finally thought up something and here it is. The bow is a "faux" bow :

Just click on the pic to enlarge it and to save it to your computer! I didn't add any words to it because I felt that the pictures said it all but if you need help, feel free to ask!

Anywho, thanks for visiting :) have a great day!

Inkspirations Challenge #25

Stamps: Watercolour Trio
Paper: Kraft, Whisper White, So Saffron, Summer Picnic DSP (retired)
Ink: Real Red, Old Olive, So Saffron, Basic Black Craft
Accessories: Fire Rhinestone Circle Brads, Scallop Edge Punch, Old Olive Satin, Dimensionals®, Circle Cutter

Hey folks! I'm back with another card! This week's sketch is a fun one again. Keesh is changing up the challenges a little from now on -- and they're GOOD changes, hee hee! The winner of the challenge for the week will be given the opportunity to be the Guest Designer for the following weeks challenge! Whoo hoo! Who wouldn't want to be a guest DT? I know I always LOVE that opportunity and I'm sure you would too, eh? BUT, you gotta play in the challenges to get that spot!

Now onto my card this week! I never make square cards ... or rarely anyway. The main reason is that postage for square cards is way more and I'm too lazy to "fix" a regular envelope (so that the card doesn't flap around inside a too-big-envie). Anyways, all that to say that I changed it to a regular card size (5½" x 4¼")! I just got this stamp set as well so I had to ink it up. I combined this week's sketch with the inspiration challenge from the gals over at Stampin' Celebration (have you checked out their challenges?! fun fun fun!).

I wasn't really in a stamping mood until I started making this card. Remember me saying something about entering the Artisan Award again this year? Well, the winners have been listed and I wasn't one this year ... :( total bummer, but oh well ... what's a girl to do, eh? I'll have a bunch of FABULOUS artwork to show you, though! (or at least I thought so -- and still DO!).

Hope you like the card! Nice and clean stamping this week for you! Have a fabulous day :) Please check out the Inkspirations teams creations (links are in my sidebar) and link up yours on Keesh's blog!

Embellish Blog Hop!

Whoo hoo!! Today's a super fun day for me and for YOU :) Join me today along with Embellish Magazine for a blog hop filled with creativity, tips, inspiration, and prizes!

There are 4 fun prizes being offered by Embellish for 10 lucky people. All YOU have to do to win one of them is by commenting on each of the blog hop participants (a list is below!)! Winners will be randomly selected from each of the blog hop participants. The comments left on each of the blog hop participant's web sites will give you an entry to win one of the prizes, which include Lawn Fawn stamps, May Arts twine, Subscription to Embellish Magazine, and A New Design crinkly stained ribbon.

And now, here's my card!
Stamps: Dot to Dot (retired)
Paper: Kraft, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Taken with Teal
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Little Leaves Sizzlit, Playground Designer Buttons, Fleurettes, Real Red Grosgrain, 1-3/8" Circle Punch, Linen Thread

We were challenged to use the colours of the magazine which were Red, Brown, Kraft, and Turquoise as well as to add twine! The twine on this card is relatively small in use but it certainly serves it purpose! I also used this week's Fall-to-Layout from Clean and Simple stamping as a jumping off point -- a little lack of mojo this week ... BUT, I'm very happy with this clean and crisp card!

I created the scalloped border by punching out three 1-3/8" circles and then taping them together. The ribbon nicely hides the joints :)

Thanks for visiting my blog today! Please check out the rest of the hop!!!

Surprise Message Card

Here's a fun fold card that I'll be doing at my class on Thursday evening! There's still time to sign up if you're interested in attending or receiving a card kit. Just let me know ASAP as I'm in the process of getting all the supplies ready :)

So, this is a "Surprise Message" fold. I'd found the directions on SCS but I modified all the measurements to fit a different layout. I used the sketch from Mojo Monday.

Hope you like the card :) Have a great day!

Colour Q Challenge #34

Stamps: Cute & Cuddly, Dotted Lines Jumbo Wheel
Paper: Kraft, Chocolate Chip, Ballet Blue, Certainly Celery, Pumpkin Pie, Welcome Neighbour DSP (retired), Whisper White
Ink: Chocolate Chip (Classic & Craft), Pumpkin Pie marker, Ballet Blue ink pad & marker, Certainly Celery marker
Accessories: Circles #2 Originals die, Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, Dimensionals®, Scallop Trim punch, 3/4" & 1/4" Circle Punches, Clear Embossing Powder

It's time for the next Colour Q challenge and this time Arielle has found THE cutest inspiration photo to draw out these colours! It inspired me in a few different ways. First of all, when I see giraffes, I think of babies ... hence the baby theme of the card. The second thing was those polka dots! I made my own polka dot paper for that bottom piece and then repeated a form of dots on the Ballet blue with the wheel, and then the white circle with the embossed dots. Sets of three's ... apparently a design rule :) Actually, I didn't think of that when I was making the card, but it sure sounds good, eh?! LOL!

The layout is from Mercy's sketch last week ... too late to enter into the challenge but it's still a great sketch!

I hope you like my card! Please visit the Colour Q blog to see the challenge. Check out what the Royal Court came up with too! Their links are in my sidebar!!!

Thanks for visiting today, I hope you have a fabulous day :)

SCS Sketch Challenge

Stamps: Upsy Daisy, Inspired by Nature, Oval All, Itty Bitty Backgrounds, En Francais
Paper: Kraft, Chocolate Chip, Regal Rose, Very Vanilla
Ink: Regal Rose, Rose Red, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa
Accessories: Chocolate Chip Satin, Oval Punch, Top Note Die, Dimensionals®, Clear Embossing Powder, Mat Pack & Piercer

This past week's sketch challenge was another fun one. I'd kind of been avoiding the SCS sketch challenges for a while as many of the sketches just did NOT appeal to me in the least. Diagonal panels, ovals, odd strips ... etc ... anyways, I'm just not up for that much of a challenge, LOL! plus, I've had VERY little stamping time lately ... the weather is gorgeous and we've been outside pretty much all day, every day!

BUT, late Tuesday evening, I was stamping on this card while chit chatting with Keesh on the phone. I'm surprised I actually managed to finish making the card, photograph it, upload it, and clean up all while talking :) Did you know that Keesh is coming to Canada this summer? I'm SO excited and can't wait to see her in person :)

Anyway, back to the card ... I had fun with Upsy Daisy for this card. It's actually very simple, just lots of little steps. This card will be one of the cards we'll be making at my June Mega Card's Class on June 19th! If you'd like to know more info about this class or to sign up, just email me. A contact link is up above!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! I hope you like my card and have a great rest of your day!

Scrappy Sunday #2 A pool or a bucket?

Welcome back to another MDS Scrappy Sunday!

Before I get to other deets about this page, I just wanted to answer a question that Diana had made on my last scrap page! She'd asked if I use MDS or PhotoShop or both ... well, I only use MDS to create the page. I use GIMP to edit all my photo's and add my watermark but otherwise the scrapping part is all My Digital Studio, baby!

So, onto today's page. I loved these pics of Maria and Jacob. It's from the same time as the last page I'd shown you (helping my parents move). It was SO hot and of course the pool was packed ... thankfully we had tubs for little kids! They stayed in those buckets for a loooooong time and loved every minute of it!

Hope you like the page! Have a great Sunday!

best wishes

Stamps: Inspired by Nature, En Francais, Short & Sweet
Paper: Elegant Eggplant, Lavender Lace, Tea Party DSP (retired), Whisper White
Ink: Elegant Eggplant, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Dimensionals®, Sponge Daubers, Mat Pack & Piercer, Scallop Edge Punch, Vanilla Organdy (retired)

This week, there's a sketch from Just Add Ink and I combined it with the inspiration challenge from Stampin' Celebration and Shelli's "wedding" themed challenge because I really think this one would be beautiful as a wedding card. LOVE the purples and since soooooooooo many seem to be disappearing from the upcoming colour renovation, I'm using up some of my stash. I actually have 2 unused packages of Lavender Lace card stock ... I NEVER use this colour (so why do I have 2 pkgs?) ... I dunno why, though -- 'cause it looks GREAT with eggplant, don't you think?

Now, this card is also for my upcoming Fun Folds class on Thursday evening. We're going to be making 4 different folds and this'll be one of them. It's called an Easel card and they are sooooooooo simple to make and yet really have that "WOW" factor for card recipients. I'm not the hugest "can't figure this out" card maker -- by that I mean that the recipient needs me to walk them through opening a card ... BUT, this fold is super fun and super easy for both me and the recipient!

here's a pic of the card standing:
Anywho ... thanks for visiting my blog today! Hope you have a fun and stamp-filled day :)

for you

Stamps: Elements of Style, Fresh Cuts
Paper: Naturals White, Whisper White, Going Grey Textured, Basic Black
Ink: Stazon™, Going Grey Marker, basic Black
Accessories: Top Note die, Linen Thread, Black Button, Dimensionals®, Textured embossing folder, Basic Grey Taffeta

OK, well, before I can talk about this card I have GOT to ask you something! Do any of you watch Grey's Anatomy? Well, call me an addict ... it's probably a show I ought not to watch as it promotes lifestyles that conflicts with my beliefs but still, it's amazing drama ... and last night! WOW! Total crazy show. I was bawling through most of it ... and I can't believe that Meredith miscarried (totally makes sense considering the shock) without even telling Derek she was pregnant in the first place ... :(

anyway ... on to the card, eh?

I'd seen a few version of a monochromatic/toile look to this same stamp set and I loved the look so here's my version, LOL! The sketch is from this week's Mojo Monday sketch -- finally getting to one a few days after it comes rather than several weeks ... I'll be making this one at an upcoming "Mega" class coming up in June. It's fun and it's relatively simple -- just a lot of layers!

I've been asked a few times on how to create the ruffled ribbon. It seems to be a very popular technique for a lot of cardmakers and it's actually very simple to do! So, with that in mind, I thought I'd do a step-by-step while making this card. You don't end up seeing a ton of it on the card ... it didn't quite go where I originally envisioned ... but anyway, here's a quick tutorial!

Start out with laying a strip of Sticky Strip where you would like your ribbon to go.
Cut your ribbon. I started with a piece of ribbon that was double my cardstock width. If you want more loops than I did on this particular piece, you will need 2-1/2x the length of your card stock.

Bunch up the ribbon in little loops.

now, for this piece, I didn't want the whole looping thing along because I knew my image was going to cover a bunch of it, so I laid it flat and then resumed the loops at the opposite ends.

To have the ribbon lay fat, I put a glue dot behind each ribbon loop and press them flat in the direction I want them to go.

and there you go: beautifully "ruffled"/"accordioned" ribbon!

and here's an image of the whole tutorial that I created using My Digital Studio (along with some of the newer downloads!) that you can click on and save it to your computer or wherever you keep these kinds of things!

I also submitted this one for Lesley's "Guest Paper Player" of the month! She's looking for different people to be guest designers with her new challenge team!

Hope you enjoyed my mini tutorial :) Have a great day!

thinking of you

Stamps: Great Friend, Sanded, Trendy Trees
Paper: Naturals White, Dusty Durango, Whisper White, Bermuda Bay Prints DSP
Ink: Kiwi Kiss, Chocolate Chip, Versa Mark®, Dusty Durango
Accessories: Scallop Edge Punch, Linen Thread, Dimensionals®, White Gel Pen, Mat Pack & Piercer, Clear Embossing Powder

Good morning! I'm still in card class mode for my class coming up in a couple of weeks and I'm debating on using this one at that class. It's fun, it's not flowers, and is relatively easy to make! I paired the Card Patterns (it's been TOO long since I've played with the Card Patterns team!) sketch and the Embellish colour challenge. Let me know what you think?

Thanks for visiting :)

Renée

just for you

<--- Well, what do you get when you start out with that? Looks pretty blah, eh? At least that's what I think ... LOL!

I was playin' around with a couple of challenges (like normal) and these were the colours that were given from the Color Cue challenge (white, navy, light blue, and yellow). The other challenge was from 2 Sketches 4 You -- one with a scalloped circle in the centre. Now, I do have dies that'll cut a scalloped circle but I felt like using my latest die acquisition -- the Island Floral die from the current Summer mini catalogue!

Anyways, with the thoughts floating in and around my head, here's what I ended up with after all of that!

Stamps: Eastern Blooms, En Francais, Great Friend, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Barely Banana, Not Quite Navy, Bashful Blue, Haiku DSP (retired), Confetti White, Whisper White
Ink: Not Quite Navy, Bashful Blue, Versa Mark®
Accessories: Eyelet Border Punch, Island Floral die, Swirls Sizzlit, Beautiful Wings Embosslit, Iridescent Ice embossing powder, Dimensionals®, Circles #2 die, So Saffron Grosgrain (SAB retired)

I ended up changing the colour of the card base as the white was just a bit too white for me. The butterfly is embossed with Iridescent Ice embossing powder and then cut out! So, what do you think?

Thanks for visiting!

Colour Q Challenge #33

Stamps: Elements of Style, Stem Sayings
Paper: Bermuda Bay, Soft Suede, Whisper White
Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento), Soft Suede, VersaMark®
Accessories: Copic Markers, Dimensionals®, Linen Thread, Clear Embossing Powder

I was still playing with this stamp set so I used it once again for this week's Colour Q challenge! Lovely colours, eh? I chose to use my Copic markers this week too as I really haven't been using them as much as I ought to (they're not cheap so they need to work for their lodging!). I really love how they work on white cardstock and especially with this set.

So ... I coloured in the main image and then stamped the flourish on the edge and embossed it. It's also stamped on the card base but not embossed. The sentiment was freehand cut!

Just Add Ink had a fun version of a challenge this go around: they did a blog hop, each blog featuring a different technique! The fun part was that challenge participants can choose any one of the techniques shared to create their entry. I chose to use the emboss resist technique for this card. You can see the swirls on the side of the white panel, right? I embossed them with clear powder and then lightly rubber a bit of suede ink over them to just show them up a bit!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! Please check out the Colour Q challenge as well as the rest of the Royal Court's projects (links are in my sidebar!)!

A Robot Birthday ...

Stamps: Lots of Bots
Paper: Taken with Teal, Basic Black, Welcome Neighbour DSP (SAB), Naturals White, Watercolour Paper
Ink: Stazon™, various for colouring
Accessories: Dimensionals®, Curly Label Punch, 1-3/4" Circle Punch, AquaPainter™

Super simple little card, eh? I'm trying to find my mojo and I figure that simple cards are okay to do too, don't you think? I was inspired by the recent challenge from Stampin' Celebration. This is only their SECOND challenge ever! The inspiration pic had these cute little robot cupcakes on them so not only did it inspire me to use robots, but it inspired a birthday theme too. This card also uses a technique called "spotlighting" which is a fun technique that enables you to not have to colour sooooooooo much in, especially these tiny little robots!

Thanks for visiting! I hope you have a great day :)

Scrappy Sunday? Moving Day

Now that I'm getting back into the scrapbooking mode thanks to digital software (there's NO WAY I'll be going back to paper scrapping ... I don't have the patience for it), perhaps I'll do a "Scrappy Sunday" every once in a while. What do you think about that?

This is another page from 2008, again ... my parents had just sold their farm and so a bunch of us had gone to their place to help them move the last little bit of stuff -- turned out to be not so "little"!

In the circular pic, on the left is my uncle, then my hubby, our son Jacob, and then my Dad. All of them were pulling goofy faces as if they were dead tired ... they'd only begun 10 minutes before the pic was taken!

Anyways, do you want MDS details? As in, which papers I used or stamps, or whatever? I can include them if you want, just let me know!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Have a great day!

Love You

Stamps: Elements of Style, Fancy Flexible Phrases
Paper: Kraft, Baja Breeze, Urban Garden DSP (retired), Watercolour Paper
Ink: Stazon™, Baja Breeze, Old Olive, So Saffron, VersaMark®
Accessories: Dimensionals®, Eyelet Border Punch, AquaPainter™, Old Olive Satin Ribbon

This was made for this week's sketch challenge on Splitcoast as well as for the colour challenge from Colour Throwdown. I was feeling incredibly mojo-less when thinking of something to make for my stamp club (met on Friday evening) but I'd like to think I powered through that? This was the card project my club had made!

Hope you like it and aren't sick of Elements of Style yet? I LOVE this stamp set!

Thanks for visiting my blog today! Hope you have a great day :)
