Hi everyone! Here's my card for today's Inkspirations colour challenge! I did make one change -- I used Riding Hood Red instead of Ruby Red. It's only because I have no Ruby Red left in the house ... with the colour renovation, I didn't stock up on any retiring colours. I never use them (or rarely) so I've learned to stay away from over purchasing for the most part. Anyway, Riding Hood Red is quite similar to Ruby Red, perhaps slighter deeper in colour but close nonetheless!

I'll be holding a masculine cards class in September and this will be one of the three designs for that class! Many people say that ribbon can't be used on a guy's card, well, I beg to differ. The guys I know have no issue with ribbon -- it's all in how it's used. Fluffy bows and girly colours are not their thing but rough and tumbled are closer to it! I find that the men in my life LOVE texture -- whether it's embossed (both heat and dry embossed) or it's torn, it is perfect for them. They are tactile guys and always touch the card. If there's nothing to touch, they quickly move to the inside!

I'd be curious to know what YOU think is the perfect masculine card? I'll send a class card kit to a random answerer!! Just leave a comment on this card over the next few days (by the 10th) and I'll let you know who's getting the card kit :).

I hope you like this card! Please check out the challenge on Keesh's blog and see what the rest of the Inkspiration team is up to :)

As far as my men are concerned the perfect card is all about texture and color with minimal embellishments. They don't care for ribbons or bling but brads are fine. Thanks for sharing your ideas; masculine cards are difficult to come up with.

I find that the extreme elements are really impressive with lots of distressing technique.

I agree-men in my life LOVE ribbon on their cards and anything else that's tactile!! Love it!! They really like to feel the card and you're right-if there's not much on the front they quickly dismiss it and move to the inside. LOL!! My husband even asks ?'s as to how the embellishment was made which makes me feel qreat!! He's kept every card I've ever made for him-my father-in-law too!! My FIL shows them to every one of his customers!! :) Love the card and Love your blog!! It's the first thing I look at in the a.m.!! :)

I think it's texture and color that is most catching with men's cards. I love your card!

Hi Renee, love your card, for a male card I like texture, ribbon is fine, a thick heavy one, string, crimped paper, stamps with a man fishing in a boat on the lake, oooh I feel like going and making a card now lol.

I love this card! I agree with you that men don't mind ribbon, as long as it's not too frilly or done with girly colors. This card is just great. I love the Newsprint DSP and the color combination. Nicely done! TFS!

Renee. I LOVE this card!! It could be for a man or anyone, for that matter. The clear embossing, with the color daubed on over the newsprint looks awesome!! When I bring home cards, my hubby likes to touch them and feel for texture as well. He always wants to see what I've stamped inside too.
Thanks for the fun cards and techniques!

Very impressive card. For masculine cards I like to use impression folders (like the square lattice) or embellishments/accessories that are not normally used in cards: cardboard/washers, etc.
