Artisan Award reject/non-winner/etc - Hello Baby

I had found this cute wooden basket at the local dollar store when I was thinking up stuff to make for a 3D project. It had had a bunch of bath stuff in it but I ended up chucking it (not so nice stuff, IMO, and not worth saving). I covered the outside and used different sanding tools to get the scallop edges looking nice and clean. I managed to get all the legs/lines of the birds to look straight up and down with some creative wrapping (ok, not so creative ...!) and then I added a handle (which originally was rough jute twine) of Chocolate Grosgrain that was backed with a strip of cardstock to give a little more stability to the ribbon.

The lamb was also a dollar store find (they actually have some really cute stuffies!) and I wrapped some linen thread around the neck and added a matchbook card.

I figure a new mom could take the stuffie out and then use the basket for all sorts of different things (washcloth holder, baby supplies like diaper pins, powder, vaseline, cottan balls, lotion ...). I thought this was the cutest project ever! Well, at least for me :)
