For You

Well, I've been a busy busy girl this week. I decided to enter for the Artisan Award. D'you know what that is? It's a contest for Stampin' Up! demonstrators and the prize is huge -> $500 shopping spree with SU plus $500 cash (US equivalents for both at the time of the award) plus a few others things (can't remember exactly what they are: I think a special reception at convention?). Anyways, we have to create 5 cards, 3 scrap pages, and 2 3D items. Tons of work but totally fun and the projects gotta stay under wraps (I'm uber excited about mine, LOVED them!). I've seen other demo's saying they are entering which kinda makes my heart drop 'cause they are FABULOUS artists! ah well, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? It's off in the mail and I won't find out until the end of May ... :)

Sooooooooooooo, another week, another SCS colour challenge and a new sketch from Kazan! I'm totally in love with this card ... I usually can't stand Riding Hood Red (I find it flat) but with a little sponging, it seems to come to life. The colour challenge was to use Riding Hood Red with Chocolate Chip and Pink Pirouette. The colours together are a pleasing combination, don't you think?

The sketch ... another very very interesting sketch. I find these sketches really really stretch me and I try to think outside of my box. Instead of the circles, I used the die shape that's included in the new Matchbox die (available from Stampin' Up! in the new Occasions Mini '09)! To get a layered effect, all I did was stamp the matching image found in the Great Friend stamp set (also in the Occasions mini) and then cut around the lines of the image to create the layers. Simple!

Okay, what else is there ... oh, yes! the sheep!! Isn't he looking all fluffed up?! I actually made my own liquid applique (the pre-canned stuff ran out ...). I saw the recipe somewhere online and it's really really simple. It uses ingredients that most would have in their kitchens! All you need to do is mix equal parts of all-purpose flour and table salt. Then, simply add a bit of water at a time until it becomes a good consistency like school glue (Elmers). Then all you need to do is spread it on your project with either a toothpick, a bamboo skewer, a dead pencil or whatever works. Now, the trick to having a nice soft bubble effect is to actually wait overnight once you've put your goo on your image. In this instant gratification climate, it's hard, I know, but we can do it!!

Hope you have a good day and thanks for stopping by!
